Umes shrestha

Umes Shrestha is an educator and teacher coach with ten years of teaching experience. He currently teaches organizational, managerial, and crisis communication at Kings Business College, where he also collaborates on a presentation skills passion project called YPPT sucks. Before transitioning into education, Shrestha spent a decade working as a concert photographer, a role that helped him hone his deep observation skills. His entry into teaching happened by chance when he agreed to fill an English teacher vacancy for a relative, a step that eventually led him to discover his true passion for teacher training and empowering other educators under the mentorship of Rajiv Subba. Over his career, Shrestha has evolved from an idealistic novice to a self-described rational optimist who is dedicated to improving classroom dynamics.

Shrestha strongly believes that domain expertise does not automatically make someone a good teacher without pedagogical understanding. He prefers training teachers over students because he enjoys the challenge of questioning prior beliefs and encouraging deep reflection. In his own classroom, Shrestha implements strict structural rules, such as requiring students to write before speaking and keeping mobile phones invisible, to create a focused and safe environment for learning. He heavily emphasizes the value of writing as a visible evidence of the invisible thinking process. To improve educational outcomes, Shrestha advises teachers to study how learning actually happens under different conditions and encourages students to adopt active learning strategies like writing summaries rather than relying on passive reading.
