Doers Profile / Education
Robert Hawke
Robert Hawke has dedicated twenty-one years to the field of education, working in various capacities to support student learning and educator development. He began his career as a Spanish teacher and later transitioned to teaching mathematics before serving as a school principal. Over his career, Hawke also worked at the district level within a charter school network in the United States, where he helped form and lead schools. Currently, he works as an educational coach, guiding teachers, principals, and school leaders across different contexts while occasionally writing curriculum.
Hawke is a strong advocate for creating a culture of continuous school improvement and believes that the core of excellent teaching lies in fostering critical thinking and student engagement. During a recent visit to Nepal, he spent several weeks volunteering at a school in Sinamangal, where he collaborated with teachers and helped the leadership team build their capacity to coach educators. He maintains that education must simultaneously prepare students for the world as it exists today and equip them with the communication and higher-order thinking skills needed for the future.
