Anup Upreti
Anup Upreti is a corporate lawyer in Nepal with over two decades of experience, having practiced law since 2002. He is a key figure at Pioneer, a 40-person law firm founded 40 years ago by four partners, including his father. As a second-generation lawyer who decided on his career path in his youth, Upreti specializes in banking and financial law, focusing primarily on transactional work and renewable energy. Under his leadership, the firm also operates a startup clinic that provides pro bono legal advisory services to emerging entrepreneurs to help them navigate regulatory challenges.
Beyond his daily legal practice, Upreti is passionate about economic policy and harbors an aspiration to serve as Nepals finance minister to drive systemic reforms. He advocates for a more conducive business environment, criticizing current restrictive policies like the blacklisting system that penalizes honest business failures. Upreti emphasizes the importance of streamlining regulatory approvals for foreign direct investment, prioritizing budget allocation for the judiciary, and fostering a societal mindset that supports entrepreneurship and employment creation.
