Ramu Kharel

Ramu Kharel is an emergency medicine physician and academic who was born in Gulmi, Nepal, and moved to the United States at the age of thirteen. He completed his undergraduate studies at UT Austin, where he received a full scholarship to major in Urdu alongside his pre-medicine track, eventually writing a sixty-page thesis on a marginalized Muslim women's rights organization in India. He went on to earn his medical degree and a Master of Public Health, specializing in emergency medicine. Currently, he holds a clinical and teaching position at Brown University, which allows him to split his time between clinical emergency department work and public health projects in Nepal.

In 2012, Kharel co-founded Health Advancement Programs to Serve All, an organization dedicated to improving healthcare systems and public health infrastructure in Nepal. Through this organization and other initiatives, he has led critical efforts in Nepal, including rebuilding health posts after the earthquake, training female community health volunteers, and promoting hand hygiene. He has also conducted global health training through Brown University, educating over 200,000 people worldwide. Additionally, Kharel engages in public health advocacy through his popular TikTok channel, Namaste Doctor, where he translates medical research into accessible information and actively works to debunk medical myths.
